Investors and Advisory Board

Mayfly Capital’s investors and advisory board are comprised of industry and academia experts from diverse backgrounds offering insight and guidance on current and future endeavors. Advisory board members counsel managing members and portfolio companies during all phases of the decision making process.

Charlie Kim - Managing Partner, founded Mayfly Capital LLC in August 2009 and has 15 years of investment management, operational finance and investor relations experience. Additionally, Charlie is CEO of Ross PPD Corporation, a Cleveland-based specialty printing and packaging manufacturer. Prior to Mayfly, Charlie was with Intervale Capital, a $280 million private equity fund dedicated to investing in oilfield service and manufacturing companies.  Charlie started his career at Merrill Lynch in Private Wealth Management and has also worked at Ernst & Young LLP in the Audit and Assurance Advisory Practice.

Charlie received his B.S. in Economics and Finance with a minor in Mathematics from Ohio Northern University and his M.S. in Accounting with honors from Boston College.

Richard J. DeAgazio has over 50 years of experience in the financial services industry and is the Special Advisory to the Board of Directors and the CEO of United Realty Partners. After 27 years as Executive Vice President of Boston Capital Corp. and President of Boston Capital Securities, Inc., Mr. Deagazio recently retired and has been consulting in the non-traded REIT industry with respect to marketing and capital raising.  In addition to many years in the traditional securities arena, he has devoted a majority of his career to alternative investments and special products such as REITS, private placements and private equity in real estate and other associated industries.

 Jeff Wright is a retired Engagement Quality Review Partner from Ernst & Young who has over 35 years of experience auditing public and private companies from early-stage to multinational global businesses. He has been involved in numerous IPOs, acquisitions and mergers and has served many medical device clients such as Orthofix, NxStage, LeMaitre Vascular and Smith & Nephew’s. He is a former director of MassMEDIC, a not-for-profit industry organization serving the medical device industry. Jeff is also a member of the AICPA and the Massachusetts Society of CPAs.

Dr. Sam S. Yoon, M.D., is a surgical oncologist and researcher at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in  New York City. He specializes in the treatment of patients sarcomas and gastroesophageal cancers.  Dr. Yoon strives to provide each patient with the best possible care for his or her particular disease while constantly improving and expanding his own surgical skills. As a result, Dr. Yoon has adopted new minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopic resection of gastric tumors and intra-abdominal sarcomas. Dr. Yoon is the principal investigator for a translational research laboratory that examines the role of the tumor blood vessels in controlling the growth, metastasis and radiation response of sarcomas and gastroesophageal cancers.

 

Larry Martin is a retired entrepreneur who has over 35 years of experience in the injection molding and plastics industry. He began his career at DuPont then moved into positions with Risdon International and Nypro before starting his own custom plastic injection molding company, Cycles Incorporated. Larry served as President of Cycles Incorporated which specialized injection molding of precision components for the medical and surgical industries for over 20 years before its acquisition by SMC Ltd. in 2007.

Dr. Carla (Bender) Kim, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Stem Cell Program at Boston Children’s Hospital and the Genetics Department at Harvard Medical School. Her current research focuses on the characterization of non-small cell lung cancer stem cells and normal lung stem cells. Dr. Kim’s research is funded through grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Harvard Stem Cell Institute, the Manton Center for Disease Research, the LAM Foundation, the Thoracic Foundation and the Lung Cancer Research Foundation.

Dr. Bruce Kahn, Ph.D., is a consultant specializing in the multidisciplinary fields of printed electronics, organic electronics, nanotechnology, smart packaging, and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). In addition to helping companies and governmental organizations, he writes books, articles and reports, and conducts training sessions and workshops. Dr. Kahn was a Professor at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he started the Printable Electronics research program. He has developed and applied technology for printing chemical sensors. His group printed RFID antennas directly onto corrugated cardboard substrates, and investigated the affects of environment and conditioning on the electrical conductivity.

Michael Neighbor joined the Mayfly advisory board in 2010. With over 15 years of sales and management experience, Michael currently works as a Global Key Account Manager at the Novecare Division of Solvay Inc., where his primary responsibilities include driving sales growth and managing commercial business within global key accounts, organizing new product launches and analyzing market trends for R&D. Michael’s key accounts include Unilever, SC Johnson and Mast Global, among others. Michael previously worked in sales for BASF Corporation, Ashland Performance Materials and Ashland Distribution.
